How Can We Help
Family Support Programmes
Family Support seeks to cultivate the strengths and innate problem-solving abilities of all families and restore confidence in their capacity to overcome adversity.
The "Family" is seen in all of its diverse forms and includes young families; people parenting alone; young carers; teenage parents; urban families and rural families. Cultural diversity amongst families is also recognised, as are different childcare and child-rearing practices across minority ethnic groups.
The Programmes recognise that families do not exist in isolation, but are comprised of individuals and exist in communities. In supporting families, community development can support change at three levels:
w
Personal - developing self-confidence and skills
w
Community - regenerating and revitalising disadvantaged communities
w
Public Policy - influencing wider policies and programmes in favour of disadvantaged people and communities
Programmes vary depending on size, mandate and resources. Services are flexible, accessible and offered in an informal atmosphere.
